Game Elements
The first article I read was called “What are the Qualities of Games” which is kind of like the previous articles I’ve read in the past week. The article touches on aspects of a game such as how players interact with the game or what the goal is for the players in the game. The most intriguing part of the article for me personally was Critical analysis part, it focuses on finding the core of the game elements, finding out why the dev decides to do certain things within the game and for what reasons. More info on this article can be found here.
The second article
called “Game Design Research” talks about the difference in views when discussing
game design and how it can differ depending on the game designer. It mentions
how getting feedback from players and other dev can be vital for how well the game will turn out and how beta’s have been used over the past few years to
help games gain a perspective on how their game runs/how interested players are
in their concept. Sadly, though over the recent years major game productions
have used betas as less of a feedback focused area and more of a marketing
scheme/way to make extra money before launch. The main topic I see in this article
by the end is that research is key within game design and continuously monitoring
and getting feedback will help a game developer.
And finally, the
third article or
should I say the video is by Livelessons, it covers the process of getting your
game idea down as a prototype and not having it get stuck in the design period.
Prototypes aren’t also fully coded or fully made they just demonstrate the basic layout of the game/basic functions, even paper cut-outs can be used to
showcase this.
