An introduction to... me?

Hi, my name is Gavin Dwyer, I'm a wannabe film/music director who has a passion for photography and web development. I currently live in Co. Meath with my family as I attend college in TU Dublin Blanchardstown. My hobbies include Scouts, rugby, golf, and photography. In my spare time, I tend to find myself watching movies/tv-shows or playing video games.

I'm excited to start my 2nd year of college especially with everything going on in the world over the summer like Covid-19 and wildfires it been stressful but now that college is back I can continue with my drive for media studies and college as a whole.


Over the break, I've spent most of my time playing games such as Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Battlefront 2, Garry's Mod, and Among Us. TF2 and GMOD are by far my favourite games as I have over 5000+ hrs in both games. Both games released back in 2007 and still currently have over a few thousand active players. If I'm not playing a video game I most likely am watching a film or watching Netflix. Over the summer I've seen some amazing films such as Tenet, Underwater, and Enola Holmes which just recently came out on Netflix. Tenet was amazing and almost blow my mind with how complex the story was, I highly recommend it!


Back on the topic of college, This year I think I'm most excited for either Web Dev or Multimedia Development as last year WebDev was my easiest but also a lot of fun to learn while Multimedia covers a lot of interesting topics I'm interested in like Game Development and the process/tools of making games. I can't wait to get into Unity and begin making all sorts of crazy games from platformers to FPS games.

    Hi Gavin!! Really enjoyed this blog post :) I'm not much of a gamer so I can't say chime in on the games you've been playing but the movies seem interesting! I must add them to my list!!     Hey Gavin, I found the introduction to your blog very interesting and creative, I'm impressed by how many hours you've spent playing your favourite games, I remember playing Garry's Mod when I was younger with my brother! Your movie recommendations look very compelling and I will definitely look into checking them out. :)

    Hi Gavin, I like your introduction post! I'm not much of scouts lover, but I do enjoy golf, photography and games! I have yet to play Among Us but I hear it's insane so maybe it's worth giving it a look. I tried watching Enola Holmes but it's there's something about MBB's face that I can't take too seriously. Hopefully I get over that because I do enjoy the variations of Sherlock Holmes movies and tv series.

I was actually meaning to check out Tenet, but your brief description has made me want to go watch it now! Maybe when I'm done here. I haven't played any of those games you've mentioned but my friends want me to join their among us games all the time. Hope your well man!!

    Hi Gavin , I really liked your introduction blog. your blog really told me what you're into, which is pretty cool. Yes I am very excited for 2nd year too and to see how it goes. Web Dev was my best module too although I struggled with it too, but I guess practice makes perfect. Just wanted to say that this blog was a good introduction blog and all the best with the year man.

    Hi Gavin
    good introduction I'm not realy a sports person my self. I noticed you play a lot of battle royal type game I'm not realy a fan of those I prefer game with a playable plot not one hidden in the background and in comics which is a shame the overwatch characters are very colorful. I have to say I'm lest excited for multimedia as I'm not planing on make games when I leave Collage.

    Yo Gavin, I'd love to see some of your work, even just the hobby stuff. College starting back up also got me back into the whole media studies mood too. I don't personally play TF2 and GMOD Bu I understand putting 5000+ hours into them but that's still kinda impressive not gonna lie. I'm also pretty excited for Multimedia Dev because I'm really interested in the Game Development too.

    Hi Gavin, really enjoyed reading your intro post for your blog. Like yourself over the summer I found myself steam rolling through game after game and pretty much every other series on Netflix also. I managed to get out to a cinema myself to Tenet as well and WOW what a movie it was incredible. I'd love to see some of your thoughts on Unity after getting a started on it a few weeks back.

    Hi Gavin, its definitely been a surreal past few months this year. I also spent most of my free time cozied up playing games or watching movies. I've been running out of movies to watch recently so I'll definitely look to give Tennent a shot. It's nice to see people with a passion and goal in mind past university.     Hey Gavin, I enjoyed reading your introduction blog!. I also enjoy photography it was my favourite module last year. I recently bought a new canon camera which I unfortunately haven't gotten the time to use (I know your thinking what else be doing during a lockdown). I agree summer was a bit stressful even when shops were open I felt that I was in a queue for ages. but I'm also glad college is back to get some sort of reality back. I have heard a lot about the game Among us but have never played it. Best of luck with second year!

    Great blog wasn't too long to read and you got a lot of info in there to. I hate to say it, I was looking forward to heading back to college because it was a needed distraction from everything going on in the world at the time. Damn , you spend a lot of time gaming, 5,000 hours is absolutely insane, you could have finished the whole course within that time haha. I spend a lot of my free time watching movies, great way to pass the time, hope this year goes well for you, Good luck!!!

    Since I'm not a gamer (I not a gamer AT ALL) I have no idea what games are those, well... apart from Among Us but I have never played it hehe

What is a Game, Anyway? I've personally always wondered what actually makes the fundamentals of a game or the basic features to which something can be called "A Game", and not until I read an article called "What is a game any way?" did I truly understand. Game Idea Research

Nightmare Creature   Last weekend we were asked to begin our research on game ideas, possible games we could code within unity and showcase to our class. We were asked to come up with 4 unique ideas, here is mine: 1. Horror Puzzle Game 2. 3D Sphere Game 3. Tower Defence Game 4. FPS Shooter Game Horror Puzzle Game This week we were asked to pick one of the four ideas that we would focus on for the rest of the semester, I decided to go with my first the idea and possibly my favourite, a Horror Puzzle Game. My love for horror games is massive and I hope I can translate that love into making a good functioning horror game myself that I’m proud of, I have tones of knowledge on the subject of horror games like what mechanic and game functions should be in place, and how lighting/game design should look. This game idea interests me the most and I think ill be able to focus in on it for the rest of the semester with ease thanks to the crazy amount of unity tutorials about horror game
